Crew Agencies

There you are standing on the dock looking at the yachts wondering, do any of them need crew?
Well one way to find out is to go to the crew agency isn’t it? Not necessarily true! Crew agencies will not just wave a wand and find you a job. The relationship between a crew member and the agent is one of team work. You don’t just sign up and then sit on your butt waiting for a phone call. What do I mean about team work? Listed below are some things you must have prepared before walking in to the crew agents.

-A well written resume this a must Click Here for Sample Yachting CV
(This sample CV was supplied by Fred Dovaston Crew Angency. For all your Crewing needs www.yachtjob.com or fred@dovaston.com)

-Copies of the CV at least two, plus a copy of he CV on disk no larger than 60kbs.

-Copies of liquescence and certificates
A contact phone number (which must be local they won’t ring an international number. You can buy prepaid sim cards in each country)

-If you are a chef you should have a portfolio of your cooking skills with photos.

-If you are a stewardess photos of table settings that were particularly creative.

The most important thing is to remember you only have one chance to create a first impression. You must be dressed well and have a good plan of what you want out of yachting and what you can give yachting. Your interview with the crew agent is the deciding factor in whether or not they put you forward for any positions.

Words of warning
If you are new to yachting and don’t have courses behind you. It has been known for some less professional agencies to be quite rude and not being of much assistance. But on the bright side most agencies are professional and are only willing to help, but you must be prepared.

After your crew agency interview.
You should check in regularly to show you are keen. Some agencies have online check in some you visit in the mornings.
Update them regularly about your courses and experience and let them know when you get a job.
